Glocester Lions
Final Dinner Meeting
The Glocester Lions held our Final Dinner Meeting this year at Chester's
Restaurant in Harmony where good friends gathered as a fitting end to yet another successful year. Outgoing President
Bob Winsor addressed the crowd, filling us in on the many accomplishments our club achieved over the past twelve months. Thanks
Bob for all of your wonderful service for the past two years as our President! Lion Jim Poole had the honor of inducting
two new Melvin Jones Recipients for all of their tireless efforts on behalf of the Glocester Lions. This year's recipients
were Tasso from the Europa Restaurant as well as Lion Bill Hamill. Congratulations guys on receiving the highest honor
the Lions can bestow, and THANK YOU for everything you have done for our club. It is most appreciated! Lion Jim Clarke then
swore in all of the officers and board members for the 2010-2011 season, including our new President, Lion Greg Theberge.
Good luck, Greg! As a fitting conclusion to the evening's festivities, outgoing President Lion Bob Winsor led a moment of
silence for the family of our brother, Lion Bruce Barnes, who recently lost his beloved daughter. With heavy hearts,
our thoughts and prayers are with the Barnes family during this very difficult time.

Meeting Brings In Special Guests
Members of the Glocester Lions Club were recently honored
with a special visit from District Governor George E. Ereson and Vice District Governor Dawn Cabral-Quimbly. Despite
the cold weather outside, District Governor George entertained us with a great fireside chat comparing Lionism with good old
Santa Claus. The Glocester Lions were proud to bestow on George one of our upcoming Melvin Jones Awards for his outstanding
work and dedication to the Rhode Island Lions. It was a great night of camaraderie. Pictured below are our Glocester
Lions officers (Nancy Clarke, Bob Winsor, and Bob Roy) along with District Governor George and Vice District Governor Dawn.
Glocester Lions Lend A Helping
Hand
Members of the Glocester
Lions Cliub were recently able to help out a neighbor in need whose luck got even worse when her her hot water boiler broke
down and she was left without heat. Besides replacing the boiler, the Lions spent a Sunday morning helping out by cleaning
up her basement and yard, cutting some firewood and power washing her home. Pictured below are a few of the Lions who were
able to help that day.
Ed Angell Memorial Golf Tournament
The annual Glocester Lions Club Golf Tournament was held this year in memory of Lion
Ed Angell at the Connecticut National Country Club. Thanks go out to Lion E.J. Wholey for doing such a super job in organizing
the event. All those who turned out on June 26th had a fantastic time both on the greens and at the 19th hole and banquet.
In the end we were able to raise a lot of money for many worthwhile charities we look forward to contributing to.

It
was with great pride that the Glocester Lions bestowed Melvin Jones Fellowship awards to two of it's hardest working members
on June 24th. This internationally recognized award is the highest merit of distinction a Lion can achieve for
his or her extensive work towards humanitarian causes. Doing the distinct honor of presenting the awards to this
year's recipients was Melvin Jones Fellow, Lion Jim Poole. We are very pleased to announce that
this year's inductees are Lions Bob Roy and Ed Warner. Congratulations gentlemen on a job well done!

The Memory Of Our Past President
And Friend, Ed Angell, Memorialized
We were all saddened when we heard of the
passing of our longtime friend and fellow Lion, Ed Angell, this past February. Ed will certainly be missed by all of
us. He was a great Lion and his friendship will always be cherished. In order to remember our
past president and colleague, the Glocester Lions had a flag flown in Iraq in his honor. Rest in Peace, Ed. You were truly
a role model for us all.

News Update! Lion Nancy Clarke
reported to the Club, that as of January 1, 2009 there were 9,800 registered blind citizens living in the State

Harvest Dance A Huge Success Despite Inclement Weather!
Once again,
Camp Watmough on Snake Hill Road was the scene for the Glocester Lions Club's annual Harvest Dance and Texas Barbecue. Thanks
to the efforts of many (especially Lion Ed Warner who once again did a great job organizing and running the event),
our October 25th fundraiser was a huge success and good times were had by all. We would like to extend our special
thanks to all of those friends and local businesses who donated the many items for our plentiful raffles and
to Lion Roy Watmough who graciously let us use his great establishment for the evening. Special thanks are also extended to

Glocester Lions Donate Funds
to the Fogarty Memorial PTO to Purchase a Special Swing
The Glocester Lions recently donated funds to the Fogarty Memorial School PTO to purchase
a special swing so that two children confined to wheelchairs can enjoy recess with the rest of their classmates. The
new swing went into action on October 20th. All of the school (teachers, teacher aides and students alike) was buzzing
with excitement that day. Sadly, there were no available funds budgeted for such a worthwhile project by the town. Prior to
the PTO taking action, all these kids had to look forward to during recess was to be pushed around in their chairs
and watch the other children play. Now, they can enjoy time spent with the rest of their classmates, many of whom were gathered
around their friends as they took their first ride on the new swing. Well done Fogarty PTO! We're glad we could help such
a great cause.

Recess at Fogarty Memorial
School was hopping with the addition of the new swing!

With a smile ear to ear,
Abby enjoys her first ride on the new swing alongside her friends!
